ADB to invest $5.4 bln in Kazakhstan's green energy and infrastructure through 2029(corrects headline)The Asian Development Bank (ADB) plans to invest $5.4 billion in green energy and infrastructure projects in Kazakhstan between 2026 and 2029 under a memorandum signed with the government, the Kazakh Energy Ministry said."Following the talks, a memorandum was signed providing for the implementation of 15 projects totaling approximately $5.4 billion in 2026-2029," the ministry said in a statement.The agreement was discussed Thursday during a meeting between Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov and ADB Director General for Central and West Asia Yevgeniy Zhukov on the sidelines of a regional environmental summit in Astana.A key focus of cooperation is the modernization of heat supply systems, including the development of regional heat supply schemes, upgrading of cogeneration heat and power plants, boiler houses and heating networks, and measures to improve energy efficiency and reduce losses.The sides also emphasized decarbonization efforts, including the introduction of gas-based solutions, thermal energy storage systems and digital management tools.They further discussed electricity grid development, deployment of Smart Grid technologies and energy storage systems amid the growing share of renewable energy.The ministry said cooperation with the ADB is aimed at attracting investment, expanding public-private partnerships and strengthening workforce training in the energy sector.The Asian Development Bank was founded in 1966 and has 69 member countries, 50 of them in the Asia-Pacific region.
