INDONESIA’S 50% BIODIESEL PROGRAM BECOMES GLOBAL MODEL, ENERGY OFFICIAL SAYS

Indonesia is moving ahead with an ambitious plan to introduce a 50% biodiesel blend (B50) for vehicles and industrial use, a program that would be the first of its kind globally. Scheduled for rollout on 1 July, the initiative builds on more than a decade of biodiesel development and the current successful use of a 40% blend (B40). According to the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, the shift to B50 is the result of long‑term research and testing, undertaken without international benchmarks. The program has already attracted interest from other countries seeking to study and replicate Indonesia’s model, positioning the country as a global leader in high‑blend biofuels. Comprehensive trials are underway across multiple sectors, including automotive, mining, agriculture, shipping, power generation and, most recently, diesel rail operations. Railway testing is being conducted in stages, starting with diesel generators on the Yogyakarta–Jakarta route and followed by locomotive trials on the Surabaya–Jakarta line, with final results expected by October 2026. State‑owned railway operator KAI has expressed full support, emphasizing safety, technical reliability and performance monitoring. Overall, the B50 program is expected to strengthen energy security, reduce fossil fuel imports, and support Indonesia’s broader goals for energy transition and sustainable transportation.Source: https://jakartaglobe.id/business/indonesias-50-biodiesel-program-becomes-global-model-energy-official-says#goog_rewarded (ICE GIACARTA)
