The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is developing a real-time Structural Health Monitoring System (SHMS) to audit railway bridge conditions and prevent accidents in Indonesia. Responding to recent train collisions, BRIN Head Arif Satria explained that the SHMS will assist PT KAI in maintaining infrastructure safety. BRIN is currently conducting around 20 railway-related research projects, including signaling automation and performance modeling. Satria noted that railway safety requires a comprehensive approach, as accidents often stem from a combination of technology, human behavior, and social factors.
