INDONESIA & NETHERLANDS DEEPEN NAVAL TIES TO SECURE UNDERSEA INFRASTRUCTURE
Indonesia and the Netherlands have agreed to deepen naval cooperation to address growing threats to critical undersea infrastructure, following their 7th Navy‑to‑Navy Staff Talks in Jakarta on April 24. The discussions highlighted a strategic shift in naval priorities as subsea communication cables and energy pipelines become central to global security. Indonesia, whose waters host vital international data routes, is seeking stronger monitoring and detection capabilities, while the Netherlands brings established maritime and seabed warfare expertise. Both sides emphasized that protecting the seabed is increasingly important amid rising geopolitical tensions and dependence on underwater networks. Beyond joint development of seabed warfare capabilities, the cooperation will expand to personnel exchanges and training, including naval cadets and marine corps units, to strengthen long‑term interoperability. The initiative comes as global concern grows over the vulnerability of undersea infrastructure, which carries more than 95 percent of global data traffic and is increasingly exposed to disruption and sabotage. Recent cable incidents in Europe and stepped‑up NATO coordination underscore that economic and digital security are now closely tied to safeguarding underwater systems, positioning Indonesia’s partnership with the Netherlands as part of a broader move to protect global connectivity and resilience.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/6542/defense-and-security/indonesia-netherlands-deepen-naval-ties-to-secure-undersea-infrastructure (ICE GIACARTA)
