KRAKATAU STEEL TO LAUNCH IDR 30 TRILLION STEEL PROJECT, APRIL 29, 2026
Indonesia’s largest state-owned steel producer, PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk (KRAS), is preparing an IDR 30 trillion integrated steel project, with groundbreaking set for April 29, 2026 in Cilacap. President Director Akbar Djohan explained the project will cover both carbon steel and stainless steel production to reduce reliance on imports and strengthen Indonesia’s industrial independence. Carbon steel development will utilize domestic iron ore, while stainless steel facilities will be located closer to nickel resources. The initiative supports the Indonesian government’s downstream agenda and industrial resilience amid global supply chain challenges. Akbar noted the project requires strong cross-sector support, from raw materials to financing and infrastructure. As part of restructuring, Krakatau Steel also secured IDR 4.93 trillion in shareholder loans from PT Danantara Asset Management at the end of 2025, ensuring capital for operations and employee programs.Source: https://industri.kontan.co.id/news/krakatau-steel-siapkan-proyek-baja-rp-30-triliun-groundbreaking-29-april-2026 (ICE GIACARTA)
