SYRIA, UAE DISCUSS AGRICULTURAL COOPERATION TO ADDRESS CLIMATE CHALLENGES
Syrian Minister of Agriculture Amjad Badr discussed on Wednesday with the UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, the development of a joint vision to enhance the agricultural sector in both countries. In a statement, the Syrian Ministry of Agriculture said the meeting focused on addressing climate challenges through innovation, scientific research, and the exchange of expertise, with the aim of enhancing food security and ensuring the sustainability of agricultural resources in Syria and the UAE. Discussions also covered scientific research cooperation and the activation of partnerships between research centers to adopt modern agricultural technologies, develop improved seed varieties, and introduce advanced irrigation systems suited to climate change.The two sides also explored mechanisms to enhance cooperation in animal health, breed improvement, and the development of the livestock sector, particularly in relation to Arabian horses and poultry production. They stressed that combining Syrian research expertise with the UAE’s technological advancement represents a strategic step toward climate-smart and sustainable agriculture. Minister Badr said, “We are entering a new phase of joint work aimed at transforming challenges into opportunities and supporting farmers and producers in both countries.” (ICE BEIRUT)
