DOE SUPPORTS REMOVAL OF ELECTRICITY VAT – GARIN
THE Department of Energy (DOE) on Monday said that it supported the removal of the value-added tax (VAT) on electricity to ease the burden of high power prices among consumers. "We have been consistent in our opinion on VAT removals and anything that would help lower the price of electricity,” Energy Secretary Sharon Garin said in a media briefing. “This also includes the revisiting of the VAT or any taxes that are set in our electric bill," she added. "[H]owever, the decision on whether on the suspension, removal, or imposition of any tax measure is under the mandate of the Department of Finance ... this is for the Department of Finance to assess and review,” she continued. “[W]e leave it also to their decision on how this will overall impact the economy and on the basic services of the government.” https://www.manilatimes.net/2026/05/05/business/top-business/doe-supports-removal-of-electricity-vat-garin/2334882 (ICE SINGAPORE)
