INDONESIA WEIGHS EV INCENTIVES TO BOOST INDUSTRY, CUT ENERGY COSTS
Indonesia’s Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita and Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa met in Jakarta to discuss possible incentives for electric vehicles (EVs) as part of the government’s strategy to strengthen the national industry. Kartasasmita said EV incentives are becoming increasingly relevant to promote environmentally friendly transportation, cut carbon emissions and fuel use, and reduce energy subsidies amid high global oil prices and geopolitical tensions. He emphasized that EVs are seen as a key economic instrument to boost manufacturing resilience and protect jobs, noting that global conflicts and energy supply risks are accelerating the shift toward electric mobility. However, Kartasasmita stressed that decisions on the timing, form, and scheme of EV incentives lie with the Finance Ministry. Beyond EV policy, the meeting also addressed ways to increase Indonesia’s manufactured exports. Although manufacturing accounts for around 75–80 percent of total exports, only about 20 percent of domestically produced goods are sold overseas. The government aims to raise export shares while still ensuring that the domestic market remains well supplied.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/414684/indonesia-weighs-ev-incentives-to-boost-industry-cut-energy-costs (ICE GIACARTA)
