The National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) signed an agreement on Tuesday with the international firm Accelerate Energy to charter a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) for deployment at the Sheikh Sabah LNG Terminal in Aqaba. According to a company statement issued Wednesday, the agreement is intended to ensure the continuity of natural gas supplies and reinforce the Kingdom’s energy security. The deal forms part of NEPCO’s broader strategy to maintain the readiness of national infrastructure to receive liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments from global markets, regasify them, and feed them into the national gas grid. It also comes as the current FSRU, Energos Force, approaches the end of its contract term in late June. (ICE AMMAN)
