INDONESIAN GOVT ACCELERATES SPORTS INDUSTRY AS NATIONAL ECONOMIC STRATEGY
Indonesia's Ministry of Industry, through the Directorate General of Small, Medium, and Miscellaneous Industries (IKMA), has partnered with the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports to develop Indonesia’s national sports industry, formalized by an MoU signed on April 30, 2026. Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita highlighted the sector’s strong potential as an economic driver, noting that the sports equipment industry has posted a trade surplus over the past five years, with exports rising five percent in 2025 and successfully entering major markets such as the United States and Japan. Despite export gains, domestic market penetration remains limited. The collaboration aims to strengthen demand–supply linkages through technical assistance, equipment facilitation, promotion, and international product standardization, while prioritizing the use of locally certified products under the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) scheme. Officials emphasized that sustained policies and collaboration are needed to better align industrial capacity with market demand and position national products as the primary choice in domestic sports activities and international events.Source: https://rri.co.id/en/business/2394342/govt-accelerates-sports-industry-as-national-economic-strategy (ICE GIACARTA)
