Indonesia is accelerating a diversified trade strategy to hedge against rising global protectionism, with the European Union at the center of its priorities. Jakarta is pushing to finalize a long‑negotiated trade agreement with the EU that would grant zero import tariffs for Indonesian exports starting January 1, 2027. The deal has entered its final procedural phase, including translation into all EU official languages ahead of member‑state ratification. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the agreement could significantly boost exports—especially for small and medium-sized enterprises—while strengthening Indonesia’s position in global supply chains amid economic uncertainty.
