UKRAINE: RISING IMPORTS OF BAKERY AND BISCUIT PRODUCTS IN EARLY 2026

In January–March 2026, Ukraine imported €37.24 million worth of bakery, pastry, and biscuit products, marking a 10.22% increase compared to the same period in 2025.Poland retained its position as the leading supplier, with exports totaling €12.34 million, accounting for 33.15% of the market and showing moderate growth of 4.61%. The Netherlands climbed to second place, expanding exports by 25.64% to €3.38 million and capturing a 9.06% market share. Romania followed closely with a strong performance, increasing supplies by 63.11% to €3.10 million (8.31% share).Bulgaria also posted robust growth, with exports rising by 52.39% to €3.03 million, securing an 8.14% market share. Italy continued its steady upward trajectory, increasing exports by 8.37% to €2.91 million and holding a 7.82% share of the Ukrainian market.Meanwhile, Germany experienced a notable decline of 13.01%, with imports falling to €3.12 million (8.36% share). Other notable developments included:- Turkey increasing shipments by 25.46% to €1.45 million (3.88%).- Spain rebounding strongly, growing by 54.43% to €1.43 million (3.85%).- Lithuania expanding supplies by 32.84% to €1.39 million (3.73%).- Slovenia rising by 42.47% to €362,867 (0.97%).A particularly striking development was Japan’s surge, with exports jumping 620.54% to €157,616, while emerging suppliers such as China, Indonesia, India, and Thailand recorded fast growth rates from smaller bases.Overall, Ukraine’s biscuit and pastry import market is continuing to diversify in early 2026, with Poland maintaining leadership, the Netherlands, Romania, and Bulgaria gaining momentum, and Italy steadily reinforcing its role among the leading European suppliers.
