INDONESIA, PHILIPPINES FORMALIZE “INDOPHIL NICKEL CORRIDOR”

Indonesia and the Philippines have formalized a landmark nickel partnership during the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, signing an MoU between the Indonesian Nickel Miners Association (APNI) and the Philippine Nickel Industry Association (PNIA). The initiative, backed by senior economic officials, establishes the “Indonesia-Philippines Nickel Corridor,” linking the Philippines’ upstream ore supply with Indonesia’s downstream smelting ecosystem. This marks a shift from short-term ore trade toward a strategic alliance focused on feedstock security, pricing stability, and industrial integration. The partnership addresses Indonesia’s looming ore shortfall amid rapid downstream expansion, while leveraging the Philippines’ role as a key supplier. Technical cooperation on ore blending will optimize smelter efficiency, and the MoU also covers trade stabilization, downstream technology, and workforce development. With Indonesia and the Philippines together producing nearly three-quarters of global nickel, the corridor strengthens ASEAN’s position in the EV and battery supply chain, aligning nickel with regional energy security and clean energy transition goals.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/6608/asean/indonesia-philippines-formalize-indophil-nickel-corridor-to-strengthen-global-critical-mineral-supply-chain (ICE GIACARTA)
