EUROPEAN COMMISSIONER: €160 MILLION SUPPORT PACKAGE FOR REFUGEES IN JORDAN UNDER
European Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Šuica stated that Jordan has carried an “enormous responsibility” for more than a decade by hosting refugees and providing them with essential services. She reaffirmed the European Union’s continued support for Jordan in its efforts to assist refugees. According to a statement issued by Jordan’s Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, Šujča announced that the EU has signed an additional €80 million support program for refugees in Jordan, highlighting the bloc’s ongoing solidarity with the Kingdom. She added that the EU is currently preparing a dedicated support package worth €160 million for the 2026–2027 period. The package is intended to support both refugees and host communities in Jordan by ensuring continued access to essential services, particularly in the health and education sectors. Šujča also noted that, for nearly a decade, the EU has remained the “most stable and reliable donor” in responding to the Syrian refugee crisis, with total EU commitments to Jordan alone exceeding €600 million.
