Russia stops transit of Kazakh oil via Druzhba pipeline to GermanyRussia has stoped the transit of Kazakh oil through the Druzhba pipeline to Germany effective May 1, citingThe decision was confirmed by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, who told reporters the move is "related to current technical capabilities." Novak said Kazakh oil previously shipped via the Druzhba pipeline to Germany will be redirected to other available logistics routes starting May 1.Asel Serikpayeva, adviser to the energy minister and official spokesperson for Kazakhstan's Ministry of Energy, said the country will reroute 260,000 tonnes of oil in May to alternative routes toward the port of Ust-Luga on the Baltic Sea and into the Caspian Pipeline Consortium system."Redirecting the oil doesn't affect our ability to meet the annual production target," Serikpayeva said. "Kazakhstan's transport infrastructure is fully capable of ensuring stable exports and keeping crude flowing to global markets without interruption."Kazakhstan began shipping oil to Germany via the Transneft pipeline system in 2023, delivering to the Adamova Zastava transfer point. In the first quarter of 2026, Kazakhstan doubled its exports to Germany, reaching 730,000 tonnes. In 2025, the volume of Kazakh oil delivered to Germany, specifically to the Schwedt refinery, totaled 2.1 million tonnes. This year, Kazakhstan had planned to ship approximately 3 million tonnes of oil via the Druzhba pipeline. (ICE ALMATY)
