Kazakhstan's renewable energy output jumps 15% in first quarterKazakhstan generated 2.3 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity from renewable sources in the first quarter of 2026, a 15% increase from the same period last year, the Energy Ministry said Wednesday."Ten new renewable energy facilities are scheduled to come online this year, including four wind farms, five solar plants and one hydroelectric plant, with a combined capacity of 245 megawatts," the ministry said in a statement.Renewables accounted for 7% of Kazakhstan's electricity generation mix in 2025, and the government aims to raise that share to 15% by 2030.The ministry said that International companies including TotalEnergies, China Power, Masdar and China Energy are already involved in developing the sector.Forecast renewable generation for 2026 is expected to reach 8.8 billion kWh. Through 2035, Kazakhstan plans to bring more than 8 gigawatts of renewable capacity online to improve energy system stability and diversify the country's energy mix. (ICE ALMATY)
