INDONESIA LAUNCHES MASSIVE $5 BILLION MARITIME MODERNIZATION PROGRAM
Indonesia plans to build 1,582 new fishing vessels by 2028 to modernize its aging national fleet and boost productivity. The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries confirmed that these ships—including 1,000 30-GT units—will be domestically produced to support the national shipbuilding industry. The initiative is part of a £4 billion (approx. Rp91.6 trillion) maritime investment partnership with the UK. The program also integrates the development of 100 "Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih" (Red and White Fishing Villages), which provide essential infrastructure like cold storage and refueling stations. With the first 50 ships scheduled for 2026, the project aims to expand fishing ranges and improve the livelihoods of coastal communities.Source: https://www.antaranews.com/berita/5565580/indonesia-bangun-1582-kapal-ikan-baru-bertahap-hingga-2028 (ICE GIACARTA)
