Retail sales in Kazakhstan up 3.4% in Jan-AprilThe volume of retail sales in January-April 2026 grew by 3.4% year-on-year to make 7.082 trillion tenge, the National Statistics Bureau of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reform said.In the reporting period, the trade enterprises increased sales by 1% year-on-year.The share of food products in the total volume of retail trade accounted for 31.1%, non-food products – 68.9%.Compared to January-April 2025, the sales volume of food products increased by 10.5%, non-food products by 0.6%.As of May 1, 2026, the total stock of the trade organizations stood at 1.72 trillion tenge, which is enough to last for 68 trading days.Since the beginning of this year, private retail enterprises earned 6.229 trillion tenge in revenues from goods sold to individuals, accounting for 88% of the total retail trade, and retail companies with foreign participation earned 852.8 billion tenge (12%).Retail activity during January-April 2026 was primarily concentrated in the cities of Almaty (31.5%) and Astana (13.2%), the Karaganda region (7.7%) and the East Kazakhstan region (5.6%).
