Metallurgical coke plant with capacity of 1 mln tonnes to be built in Karaganda regionA plant capable of producing 1 million tonnes of metallurgical coke per year will be built in Kazakhstan's Karaganda region, the government press service said.Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov signed a resolution approving an investment agreement between the Energy Ministry and Kazakhstan Success Coking Energy LLP for the plant's construction, according to the press service.The plant will be located in the village of Dubovka, Abai district, Karaganda region. Private investment in the project will total 63.5 billion tenge.Production is scheduled to begin in 2029. In the initial phase, the plant will have capacity of up to 500,000 tonnes of coke per year. By the end of 2031, it is expected to reach full design capacity of about 1 million tonnes of metallurgical coke annually.The plant is expected to create up to 500 permanent jobs, with an additional 500 jobs coming from the construction of an underground mine.The project aims to develop deep processing of coal raw materials and produce high-value-added products.
