PRABOWO SAYS PRIVATE SECTOR SHOULDN’T HANDLE AGRICULTURE ALONE

During an ASEAN meeting in Cebu on Friday (8/5), President Prabowo Subianto said that food security must not be handled by the private sector alone but rather remain under strong government control, as agriculture is too vital to be left to the private sector as ramifications from the Iran conflict and El Niño hit hard. This control is materialised by expanding state oversight on the food supply chain through the Danantara sovereign wealth fund, maintaining fertiliser subsidies, and continuing the free meal programme despite criticism over reduced import quotas on private-sector meat. Prabowo also urged ASEAN member states to strengthen the ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve to increase the preparedness of regional emergency food.Source: https://jakartaglobe.id/business/prabowo-says-private-sector-shouldnt-handle-agriculture-alone (ICE GIACARTA)
