INDONESIA’S SOLAR PANEL INDUSTRY READY FOR 100 GW PROJECT OPPORTUNITY
Indonesia’s plan to build 100 GW of solar power capacity is seen as a major opportunity to accelerate the energy transition and strengthen the domestic solar panel industry. The government is targeting rapid deployment—potentially within three years—by combining projects already included in Indonesia's state-owned electricity company (PLN)’s electricity plan, additional demand from revised projections, non-PLN schemes, and new electricity demand driven by EV adoption, electrification, and industrial growth. Installed solar capacity has been growing, rising from 142.7 MW in 2019 to about 1.49 GW in 2025. Officials say the program could boost local manufacturing, where Indonesia already has 34 solar module producers with nearly 11 GW of total capacity and moderate domestic content levels. However, major challenges remain. Industry players highlight limited upstream capacity (e.g., polysilicon and wafers), heavy reliance on imported components, weak supply chain integration, and an underdeveloped domestic market. Land constraints—especially in Java—along with regulatory bottlenecks and limited incentives could slow progress. Stakeholders stress that success will depend on stronger industrial policy alignment, fiscal incentives, and regulatory improvements, including updates to rooftop solar rules. Without these, analysts warn the ambitious 100 GW target may face delays despite its strong potential to drive both clean energy growth and industrial development.Source: https://ekonomi.bisnis.com/read/20260514/257/1973607/kesiapan-industri-panel-surya-ri-menangkap-peluang-proyek-plts-100-gw (ICE GIACARTA)
