UKRAINE TARGETS €5 MILLION ANNUAL EXPORTS OF FOREST SEEDLINGS TO THE EU
Ukraine is seeking to expand exports of forest planting material to the European Union, with potential annual export revenues estimated at up to €5 million and projected profits of around €2 million per year. The country is focusing on developing modern forest seed production, upgrading forest nursery centers, and adapting legislation to EU standards. Ukraine aims to become a competitive supplier of seedlings for the European market, particularly for pine, spruce, fir, larch, and oak species.Currently, Ukraine operates nine modern forest nurseries with a combined annual capacity of 14 million seedlings. By 2030, production capacity is expected to more than double to 30 million seedlings annually.Officials estimate that Ukraine’s domestic demand for container-grown seedlings stands at around 20 million units per year, while export potential could reach an additional 10 million seedlings annually. The initiative was discussed during a government meeting in the Chernihiv region attended by Deputy Minister Taras Vysotskyi, members of parliament, and representatives of the State Forest Resources Agency and the state enterprise “Forests of Ukraine”.https://me.gov.ua/News/Detail/1b923ce8-a605-47d4-9fd5-e65d8572e3db?lang=uk-UA&title=UkrainskiiSadivniiMaterialMozhePrinositiDo5-MlnvroEksportnoiViruchkiSchoroku (ICE KIEV)
