INDONESIA EXPANDS OVOP PROGRAM TO BOOST GLOBAL EXPORTS

Indonesia’s Ministry of Industry is strengthening Small and Medium Industries (SMEs) through a cluster-based development approach aligned with the One Village One Product (OVOP) concept, which focuses on creating competitive regional flagship products rooted in local wisdom. Since its implementation in 2013, the OVOP program has become a strategic tool to enhance SME competitiveness, support local economies, and promote self-reliance, with OVOP Awards held periodically to recognize outstanding SMEs. In 2026, the Ministry partnered with Indonesia Eximbank (LPEI) to expand this initiative through programs such as OVOP Go Global and Desa Devisa, starting with the export-oriented rendang SME cluster in Payakumbuh, West Sumatra, selected for its strong readiness, product quality, and export potential. The program includes mentoring, infrastructure support, and Industry 4.0 adoption to improve production efficiency, quality, and compliance with global standards. Participating SMEs undergo curation and receive assistance in business management, market access, and international promotion. With 113 recognized OVOP SMEs nationwide across various sectors—and West Sumatra ranking second with 22—the government aims to scale this model nationwide, helping SMEs integrate into global markets while strengthening domestic and export capacity.Source: https://rri.co.id/en/business/2422706/indonesia-expands-ovop-program-to-boost-global-exports (ICE GIACARTA)
