INDONESIA'S ACEH TO GAIN LARGER ROLE IN OFFSHORE OIL & GAS MANAGEMENT

Indonesia's upstream oil and gas regulator (SKK Migas) and the Aceh Oil and Gas Management Agency (BPMA) have signed an MoU granting Aceh a more active role in managing offshore oil and gas areas located 12 to 200 nautical miles from its baseline. The agreement, formalized during the Indonesia Petroleum Association Convention, gives BPMA strategic responsibilities such as coordinating with stakeholders, facilitating permits, engaging in public communication, and receiving copies of approved development plans. This marks a shift from central‑only management to shared oversight, ensuring Aceh’s regional interests are represented while supporting national production goals. BPMA head Nasri emphasized that the collaboration will strengthen oversight of upstream activities, optimize offshore production, and increase Aceh’s share of oil and gas revenue in line with regulations. The partnership is expected to enhance regional economic benefits, improve coordination with contractors, and contribute to national energy security. By involving Aceh directly, the government aims to balance local empowerment with broader national objectives in the energy sector.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/416832/indonesias-aceh-to-gain-larger-role-in-offshore-oil-gas-management?utm_source=antaranews&utm_medium=mobile&utm_campaign=latest_category (ICE GIACARTA)
