Kazakhstan completes 61% of spring planting, ahead of last year's paceKazakhstan had planted agricultural crops on 14.5 million hectares as of May 26, or 61% of the planned sowing area of 23.8 million hectares, the Agriculture Ministry said.By the same date last year, farmers had planted 10.2 million hectares, or 43% of the planned area.This year's sowing campaign includes 10 million hectares of grain crops, 3.2 million hectares of oilseeds, 861,400 hectares of fodder crops, 167,300 hectares of cotton, 109,100 hectares of vegetables, 80,300 hectares of melons and gourds, 107,700 hectares of potatoes and 22,000 hectares of sugar beets.The fertilizer application plan for 2026 totals 2.3 million tonnes. According to regional authorities, contracts have been signed for the supply of 1.5 million tonnes of fertilizers, of which 1.3 million tonnes have already been delivered, the ministry said.Kazakhstan's agricultural sector has 133,900 tractors, around 5,600 high-capacity seeding complexes, 71,400 seed drills and 188,500 tillage machines. Farmers are supported by 70 service centers providing uninterrupted technical maintenance. (ICE ALMATY)
