SKY LOUNGE AWARDED CONTRACT TO REHABILITATE AND OPERATE RENE MOUAWAD AIRPORT
The contract for the rehabilitation and operation of Rene Mouawad Airport in Qleyaat was awarded to Sky Lounge following the opening of financial bids by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, as part of plans to reactivate Lebanon’s second civilian airport. Three companies qualified technically in the final bidding round out of 18 firms that initially obtained tender documents. The four-year contract grants the Lebanese state 8% of net profits with a minimum annual guarantee of US$ 200,000. The operator will also construct and equip a temporary passenger terminal within 90 days, including security, customs, scanning and operational infrastructure capable of handling up to 150 passengers per hour. The project forms the first phase of a broader aviation strategy aimed at reducing pressure on Beirut airport, strengthening Lebanon’s civil aviation infrastructure and supporting economic activity in northern Lebanon and Akkar through tourism, logistics and trade-related activity.
