INDONESIA DIGITISES AND MODERNISES DAIRY PRODUCTION

The Indonesian Ministry of Industry is implementing a digitalisation programme at milk collection centres and strengthening collaboration between dairy processors, farmers, and cooperatives to improve the quality and supply of domestic fresh milk. It is also offering subsidies of up to 35% of investment costs for machinery and equipment to support dairy enterprises and farmer groups. These measures aim to reduce Indonesia’s reliance on imported milk and move toward long-term self-sufficiency, as domestic production currently meets only about 20% of industry demand. Despite its strategic importance and involvement of millions of small-scale farmers, the dairy sector faces significant challenges, including low cattle productivity, weak supply chain linkages, and limited cold storage and logistics. Milk consumption in Indonesia remains relatively low at 17.7 litres per capita annually, indicating strong growth potential. The government expects nutrition programmes, such as free meals for students and pregnant women, to boost demand and drive development across the dairy value chain.Source: https://en.vietnamplus.vn/indonesia-digitises-modernises-dairy-production-post344658.vnp (ICE GIACARTA)
