Gold recovery plant with 100,000-tonne capacity opens in northern KazakhstanA new gold recovery plant has begun operations at the long-dormant Akbeit deposit in northern Kazakhstan, reviving a mine shut down decades ago, the Akmola regional administration said Wednesday."The facility, built by Aina Resources LPP with backing from Singapore-based investors, is located near the village of Zhaltyr in the Astrakhan district," the local government said in a statement. It will process up to 100,000 tonnes of ore per year and is expected to reach full capacity within three month. The project involved a complete overhaul of the site's production infrastructure. The main mine shaft was fully rehabilitated, modern Mitsubishi hoisting equipment was installed, and a new tailings storage facility with a capacity of 300,000 cubic meters was constructed alongside the processing plant. The plant will produce doré bars and flotation concentrate. The project has created about 200 jobs so far, with plans to hire an additional 150 to 200 workers as operations scale up.The Akbeit gold-quartz deposit was first discovered in 1933. Its main shaft, which reaches a depth of 640 meters, was sealed and flooded in 1993, after which mining at the site was largely limited to small-scale artisanal operations. The ores at Akbeit are considered high-grade, with average gold content historically estimated at 32.3 grams per tonne. (ICE ALMATY)
