Subsea cable for Trans-Caspian fiber optic link arrives at Kuryk port, heads to AzerbaijanThe subsea cable for the Trans-Caspian fiber optic line, a key segment of the Digital Silk Road megaproject, has been delivered to Kazakhstan's Caspian port of Kuryk and is now en route by barge to Azerbaijan, KazakhTelecom CEO Bagdat Musin said Monday."One of the most difficult stages, delivery of the subsea cable to Kuryk port, has been successfully completed," Mussin wrote on social media.The cable has been loaded onto a barge bound for the Azerbaijani port of Alat, near Baku, he said.Mussin thanked the ministries of industry, finance, and artificial intelligence and digital development, as well as customs authorities, for expediting clearance of the shipment.The 380-kilometer fiber optic line will be laid along the Caspian seabed between Sumgait in Azerbaijan and Aktau in Kazakhstan, with a planned capacity of up to 400 terabits per second. The link is part of the Digital Silk Road project, which envisions a digital telecommunications corridor running through Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.The line is expected to enter service in the third quarter of 2026.
