INDONESIA'S COFFEE POTENTIAL REACHES US$12.5 BLN, TARGETS 400 CERTIFIED BARISTAS
Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo highlighted that Indonesia’s coffee industry has strong potential to expand in the global market, estimated at around US$12.5 billion. Indonesian coffee is already internationally recognized, with some farmers winning global competitions. Additionally, the domestic coffee shop sector is growing rapidly at about 23.9% annually, indicating strong opportunities both locally and globally. However, this potential is not fully realized due to limited human resources with international-level competency. A key challenge is the lack of globally certified baristas—out of 923,000 baristas in Indonesia, only about 100 hold international certification. To address this gap, Bank Indonesia is promoting large-scale certification programs and aims to produce around 400 internationally certified baristas each year through the 2026 MSME Entrepreneurship Transformation Program. The initiative includes training, business testing (sandboxing), and support for opening coffee businesses, with the goal of strengthening Indonesia’s position in the global coffee value chain while boosting entrepreneurship.Source: https://voi.id/ekonomi/581143/potensi-kopi-ri-capai-12-5-miliar-dolar-as-bos-bi-targetkan-cetak-400-barista-bersertifikat-tiap-tahun (ICE GIACARTA)
