INDONESIA PREPARES LOW-EMISSION FARMING TRANSITION

Indonesia is advancing its transition toward a low-emission agricultural system under the 2025–2029 Medium-Term National Development Plan, focusing on transforming rice farming practices—especially in low- and medium-yield areas. The initiative aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining productivity and increasing farmers’ incomes through measurable, scalable approaches. Digital technology will play a key role by enabling data-driven farming systems that improve efficiency, optimize inputs, and support sustainable production. To support this transition, the government is investing in irrigation infrastructure, improved seed development, and farmer empowerment programs, while emphasizing that food security must also incorporate sustainable measures such as better water management, soil health protection, climate adaptation, and higher efficiency. Indonesia is receiving international support through the Food Systems Integrated Program (FSIP), led by FAO and IFAD, with more than US$280 million in grants from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and approximately US$2.2 billion in total investment. The program promotes sustainable food production across key commodities, including rice, corn, palm oil, and livestock, as part of efforts to address the significant contribution of agriculture to global greenhouse gas emissions.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/419995/indonesia-prepares-low-emission-farming-transition (ICE GIACARTA)
