Kazakhstan's ShalkiyaZinc signs contract for supplying zinc ore from Afghanistan worth $18.9 mlnKazakhstan's JSC ShalkiyaZinc LTD and Afghan German Bakhtar Company (Afghanistan) have signed a contract for the supply of zinc ore with a total value of $18.88 million, the Kazakh Trade and Integration Ministry said.The signing of the document took place in Kabul as part of the opening of the Kazakh Trade House."The contract provides for the supply of zinc ore on DAP (delivered at place) terms with an approximate total of 30,000 tonnes per year. The contract amounts to $18.88 million," the ministry said.The contract is one of the practical results of Kazakh-Afghan business cooperation and aims to develop trade and economic ties between the two countries, the ministry said.It was previously reported that, during the visit of a Kazakh delegation to Kabul, Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and National Economy Minister Serik Zhumangarin gave assurances that Kazakh enterprises have the required competencies for processing such raw materials.Specialists from state mining company Tau-Ken Samruk visited the Pami-Kakrak zinc deposit in Afghanistan's Bamyan province in October last year to collect samples, the government said. Subsequent chemical analysis by KazZinc confirmed that the ore can in principle be processed at Kazakh facilities. The Kazakh side also raised the issue of exporting mineral raw materials from Afghanistan for further processing in the country.JSC ShalkiyaZinc LTD is part of JSC NGC Tau-Ken Samruk and is implementing a project for the development of the Shalkiya lead-zinc deposit in the Kyzylorda region.Afghan German Bakhtar Company is an Afghan company participating in the development of trade and logistics cooperation between Afghanistan and Kazakhstan and acting as a partner in the Kazakh Trade House project in Kabul.
