Almaty airport passenger traffic to reach 55 mln by 2050Almaty's international airport will be expanded to handle up to 55 million passengers a year by 2050 under a long-term investment program, the head of France's Groupe ADP told Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev during talks in Brussels.Philippe Pascal, CEO of the Paris-based airport operator, briefed Tokayev on the progress of the master plan for Almaty airport, the Kazakh presidential press service said.Tokayev said developing aviation hubs is one of Kazakhstan's strategic priorities in transport and logistics and praised Groupe ADP's management of the airport's infrastructure. The company has already completed several major projects, including the construction of a new international terminal, which has modernized the facility and expanded annual passenger capacity to 14 million.The two sides also discussed prospects for new joint projects, including the development of regional airports.Tokayev expressed confidence that the air services agreement signed between Kazakhstan and the European Union during his visit to Brussels would be an important step in advancing the sector.Groupe ADP, one of the world's leading airport infrastructure managers, operates the main Paris airports and is present in more than 20 countries through subsidiaries including TAV Airports.
