Swiss shipping giant MSC plans to invest in Caspian port infrastructureSwitzerland-based Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), the world's largest container line, plans to invest in port infrastructure on Kazakhstan's Caspian coast, the Kazakh presidential press service said Tuesday, as the country pushes to expand the Middle Corridor trade route linking China to Europe.The plans were discussed at a meeting in Brussels between President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and MSC Senior Vice President Eduard Sigrist during Tokayev's official visit to Belgium.Tokayev outlined measures to bolster the Trans-Caspian route, highlighting efforts to expand container traffic. Kazakhstan is working with Azerbaijan and Georgia on a unified long-term tariff model and is carrying out key infrastructure initiatives, including expanding the Caspian cargo fleet, dredging work and modernizing the port of Kuryk.Tokayev welcomed MSC's interest in investing in Caspian port infrastructure, saying such projects would significantly boost the route's competitiveness and help drive growth in cargo volumes between Asia and Europe.Sigrist detailed MSC's long-term investment plans for Kazakhstan, spanning logistics terminals, railway assets, port infrastructure, maritime services and air cargo operations.Tokayev praised the presence of one of the world's leading container carriers in the Kazakh market, saying development of the Middle Corridor is a strategic priority for the country.The Middle Corridor runs from China through Kazakhstan, crosses the Caspian Sea to Azerbaijan, then continues through Georgia and Turkey to European markets.
