Air Liquide-KazMunayGas JV to invest €70 mln in industrial gases for Kazakhstan's polyethylene plantA joint venture between France's Air Liquide and Kazakhstan's state oil company KazMunayGas will invest €70 million to build two air separation units to supply nitrogen and dry compressed air to the country's future polyethylene plant, KazMunayGas said Wednesday. The long-term supply agreement was signed between Silleno LLP, the operator of the polyethylene project, and Air Liquide Karabatan Tech Gases LLP during President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's official visit to Belgium, the company said. The joint venture, in which Air Liquide holds 75% and KazMunayGas 25%, will build and operate two modern, energy-efficient air separation units producing high-purity nitrogen. The facility will be located within the National Industrial Petrochemical Technopark special economic zone, adjacent to the Silleno plant.Deliveries of industrial gases are scheduled to begin in late 2028. The nitrogen and compressed air are essential for the operation of control systems, instrumentation and automation at the future polyethylene facility.Silleno is building the polyethylene plant in the Atyrau region with an annual capacity of 1.25 million tonnes, representing roughly 1% of forecast global polyethylene output. The project, launched in 2022 and due for completion in 2029, is owned by KazMunayGas (29.9%), Russia's SIBUR (30%), China's Sinopec (30%) and KMG PetroChem, a KazMunayGas subsidiary (10.1%).Air Liquide Karabatan Tech Gases LLP produces industrial gases including hydrogen, nitrogen and dry compressed air to serve large petrochemical projects in Kazakhstan.
