KAZAKHSTAN-EDB-TRANSPORT-INVESTMENT
EDB plans up to $3 bln in transport, logistics investments for 2027-2031The Eurasian Development Bank expects to invest $2.5 billion to $3 billion in transport and logistics projects under its new five-year strategy, though a senior bank official said Thursday the final figure could be higher if strong projects come along."Of the numbers we shared today, about 15-20%, that's $2.5 to $3 billion, will go into these kinds of projects," EDB Senior Managing Director Alexei Skatin told reporters at the bank's annual meeting in Almaty. "But this is just one of the three priorities of the new strategy, so the amount isn't fixed. If we spend that, we don't just stop. It comes down to the quality of projects. In Kazakhstan, we see a lot of opportunities: roads, rail, warehousing."He said the figure is an estimate and could change.EDB Chairman Nikolai Podguzov said earlier the bank aims to invest $13.5 billion across member states under the 2027-2031 strategy, up to 20% more than in the previous cycle. The board approved the new strategy Thursday, with transport and high-value-added industry as its lead priorities. (ICE ALMATY)
