Thailand eyes cooperation with Kazakhstan on critical minerals, tourism and food securityThailand is seeking to cooperate with Kazakhstan on critical minerals, tourism and food security, the Thai foreign minister said Thursday during a meeting with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in Astana.Tokayev told Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow that Thailand is one of Southeast Asia's leading economies and Kazakhstan is keen to deepen bilateral ties. Trade has grown dynamically, boosted by mutual visa-free travel, record tourist flows and expanding business contacts, he said."Kazakhstan remains Thailand's largest trading partner in Central Asia, accounting for more than 70% of its total trade with the region. Even so, we believe there is huge untapped potential," Tokayev said, according to his presidential press service. He noted that 55 Thai companies are currently registered in the Kazakh market."Kazakhstan welcomes stronger business ties and invites Thai companies to explore investment opportunities in our country," the president said.Phuangketkeow said Thailand is ready to serve as a gateway for Kazakhstan into the ASEAN market. "Thailand is interested in joint projects in promising areas such as tourism, including medical tourism, hotel construction, developing supply chains for critical minerals and ensuring food security," he said.Tokayev concluded the meeting by inviting Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul to visit Kazakhstan.
