Italy’s Eni has begun production from a new gas compression project offshore Libya, aimed at boosting output and slowing decline at one of the country’s main fields.The project, at the Sabratha platform and developed with Libya’s National Oil Corporation, is expected to add about 800 million cubic metres of gas per year, the company said.Eni said the scheme includes a new compression unit with a capacity of up to 440 million standard cubic feet per day, which will also increase condensate production.Most of the gas will be used to supply Libyan power stations, while some will continue to be exported to Italy via the Greenstream pipeline.
