VEON to invest $1 billion in Kazakhstan over three yearsVEON plans to invest $1 billion in Kazakhstan's economy over the next three years, the presidential press service said Thursday.The announcement came after President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with VEON Group CEO Muhterem Kaan Terzioğlu in Astana."Over the next three years, VEON intends to double the scale of its business and invest another $1 billion into our country's economy," Tokayev's office said in a statement.Beeline Kazakhstan, VEON's local subsidiary, is also considering building a data center in Astana.Tokayev called on VEON's management to actively cooperate on priority areas including building modern computing capacity and developing cloud services.Terzioğlu shared the company's plans to roll out advanced telecommunications technologies and expand public access to digital services.VEON provides communications and digital services to nearly 160 million customers across five countries: Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Pakistan and Bangladesh.Beeline Kazakhstan serves 11.8 million mobile subscribers and 2 million fixed internet customers. Since 2018, the company has operated as a digital operator and has built an ecosystem of 60 internal and external products. (ICE ALMATY)
