KAZAKHSTAN-CAMECO-URANIUM-COOPERATION
Tokayev discusses uranium cooperation with Cameco CEOPresident Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Cameco Corp. President Tim Gitzel on the sidelines of the Foreign Investors' Council session in Astana to discuss uranium sector projects, his press service said.Tokayev praised the results of Cameco's 30-year strategic partnership with Kazatomprom in the uranium industry, saying "building a full nuclear fuel cycle in Kazakhstan is a priority," according to the press service.The two sides discussed prospects for further cooperation in the nuclear industry, including joint projects.Cameco holds a 40% stake in Inkai LLP, which mines uranium using in-situ recovery at the Inkai deposit in the Turkistan region. Kazatomprom owns the remaining 60%.Kazatomprom is Kazakhstan's national operator for uranium and its compounds, rare metals, nuclear fuel for power plants and specialized equipment. The company is state-controlled, with Samruk-Kazyna holding 62.99% and the Finance Ministry 12.01%. Free float stands at 25%.Cameco is one of the world's largest uranium fuel suppliers. (ICE ALMATY)
