GOVERNMENT PLANS 39 NEW AIRPORTS TO BOOST AIR CONNECTIVITY
The Transportation Ministry is planning to build new airports in 39 locations across Indonesia to strengthen connectivity and promote regional economic growth. This infrastructure expansion will increase the country's planned aviation network to 296 hubs, adding to the 257 operational airports currently running. The Director General of Civil Aviation highlighted the geographic difficulties of constructing these hubs on terrains like swamps and mountains, emphasizing that future designs must prioritize safety, advanced technology, climate resilience, and sustainability. To manage this development, the ministry is urging professional organizations to improve workforce capabilities, especially in artificial intelligence, while securing international certifications to compete globally and address complex challenges in the aviation ecosystem.
