Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province announced on July 1st that it has upgraded its dedicated Emergency Medical Services (EMS) helicopter from a small model to a medium-sized model (AW-169) and has officially commenced full-scale operations. The new medium-sized rescue helicopter is manufactured by the Italian aerospace company Leonardo. It features a significantly larger cabin than previous models, allowing it to carry a wider array of advanced medical equipment. The provincial government explained that the updated layout enables medical staff to place the patient centrally in the cabin, allowing healthcare professionals to administer critical emergency treatments from both sides simultaneously. Furthermore, the aircraft's enhanced flight stability is expected to substantially increase both the safety and speed of emergency patient transfers across the region. Bang Sang-yoon, Director of the Provincial Welfare, Women, and Health Bureau, stated, "We will maintain close cooperation with relevant agencies, including the Provincial Fire Department and local medical institutions, to ensure that the newly operational medium-sized helicopter is stably and efficiently deployed to the field."
