ERG owners plan to split Kazakh and international assets into two businesses - mediaThe owners of Eurasian Resources Group are considering splitting the mining group into two separate companies, dividing its Kazakh and international assets under different entities, Bloomberg reported, citing sources.ERG holds iron ore, ferrochrome and aluminum assets in Kazakhstan as well as operations in Africa and Brazil. The assets could be divided between Shukhrat Ibragimov and Shakhmurat Mutalip, the sources said.ERG Chairman Shukhrat Ibragimov is expected to swap his family's 20% stake in the group for the international business, while Mutalip, who acquired 39.3% of ERG through his company Nature Energy Solutions Ltd. in May 2026, would gain control of the group's Kazakhstan operations, with the government retaining its stake.Around $2 billion in ERG debt would be transferred to the new international company under Ibragimov's leadership, Bloomberg said.ERG declined to comment.The diversified natural resources group operates in Asia, Europe, Africa and the Americas. Its main shareholder is the Kazakh government, and its headquarters are in Luxembourg.In Kazakhstan, ERG's assets include TNC Kazchrome, Sokolov-Sarbai Mining and Processing plant, Aluminium of Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan Aluminium Smelter (KAS), Eurasian Energy Corporation, Shubarkol Komir, TransCom, 3-Energoortalyk and ERG Service.In the Democratic Republic of Congo, Frontier is ERG's main copper plant and Metalkol processes historic tailings, making it a major cobalt and copper producer. In Brazil, BAMIN is an integrated project comprising the Pedra de Ferro high-grade iron ore mine, the Porto Sul deep-water port and a section of the FIOL transcontinental railway.The Kazakh government owns 40% of ERG. Mutalip holds 39.3% after buying out Patokh Shodiyev (18.6%) and the heirs of Alexander Mashkevich (20.7%) in May 2026. The Ibragimov family holds the remaining stake, representing the share of the late founder Alijan Ibragimov, with Shukhrat Ibragimov managing the shares. (ICE ALMATY)
