The technological pole Berytech announced the conclusion of the Lebanon Innovate program that the European Union (EU) funded with about €3m. Lebanon Innovate is a 42-month initiative to revitalize the Lebanese entrepreneurial ecosystem and to support productive sectors. The program’s objective, which is based on an innovation roadmap, is to foster innovation through supporting intellectual property and knowledge transfer, with the objective of transforming the country into a knowledge-driven digital nation.  It aimed to support the transition of innovation and technological research from universities to market-ready products and commercial ventures in Lebanon's major sectors, particularly the agriculture and food sector, the information and communications technology and the digital economy sector, as well as the healthcare sector. It said that the program’s objective was to improve the competitiveness of each sector, promote innovation and knowledge transfer, and establish linkages and exchanges with European countries and Diaspora networks in order to access international markets.  Berytech indicated that the program’s first phase focused on mapping Lebanon’s innovation ecosystem, as it identified 13 universities, six research centers, five business support organizations, and 77 industrial institutions. It added that this step provided an understanding of the country’s assets, capabilities, and opportunities for building a more integrated and effective innovation ecosystem. Also, it said that the program turned this assessment into action by strengthening collaboration between academia, research institutions, and the private sector, and by supporting the transition from research to market opportunities.  Further, it pointed out that the initiative fostered collaboration among universities, research centers, industry, the public sector, and business support organizations. It noted that, throughout its implementation, the program created new opportunities for cooperation and knowledge exchange, which helped the transformation of research and scientific expertise into practical solutions and scalable opportunities that respond to market needs and contribute to a knowledge-based economy.  Also, it said that five strategic organizations that implemented the program consisted of the ANIMA Investment Network, the European Business and Innovation Centre Network (EBN), the Industrial Research Achievement Association - Lebanon (IRALEB), the Industrial Research Institute (IRI), and the LEITAT Technological Center.
