China Tianying plans several waste-to-energy plants in three Kazakh citiesPrime Minister Olzhas Bektenov met with China Tianying Inc. Party Secretary and President Debiao Cao to discuss prospects for building waste-to-energy plants in Kazakhstan’s cities, the government press service said.The meeting focused on the construction of small-capacity plants processing 250 to 500 tonnes of waste per day, the government said.Following the meeting, Bektenov instructed government agencies to assist in supporting the investment project."The Ecology Ministry, together with other relevant agencies, is to expedite the final stage of negotiations with China Tianying and, within two weeks, submit for approval an investment agreement envisaging the construction of solid waste processing plants in at least three large cities of Kazakhstan," the prime minister was quoted as saying.Waste processing projects in Kazakhstan are currently carried out under investment agreements, with electricity generated from waste priced at up to 55 tenge per kWh, the government said.Kazakhstan is already building such plants in Astana, Almaty and Shymkent, with a combined cost of 293.3 billion tenge and total capacity of 4,500 tonnes of waste per day, generating 134 MW of electricity. These projects are being carried out by Chinese companies Junxin Environmental Protection, EAST HOPE and Shaanxi Construction Engineering. (ICE ALMATY)
