Kazakhstan Grain Union raises export forecast to 14.3 million tonnes for current seasonThe Kazakhstan Grain Union has raised its export forecast for the current agricultural season to 14.3 million tonnes, up 5% from its previous estimate of 13.6 million tonnes, the union's head of analytics Yevgeny Karabanov said Wednesday."Thanks to higher export forecasts for wheat, wheat flour and feed flour, we are raising our previous estimate for combined exports of wheat, wheat flour and feed flour in grain equivalent by 710,000 tonnes to 14.3 million tonnes for the 2025/26 season," Karabanov wrote on his Telegram channel.Combined wheat exports in grain equivalent rose 19% year on year to 12 million tonnes between September and May. May shipments totaled 855,000 tonnes, down 30% from April, he said.Several key buyers ramped up purchases during the period. Uzbekistan increased imports by 36% to 4.7 million tonnes, Tajikistan by 4% to 1.1 million tonnes, Afghanistan 50% to 2.2 million tonnes, China 68% to 2.4 million tonnes and Turkmenistan by 41.7% to 177,000 tonnes. Azerbaijan, Georgia, Norway, Italy and Latvia all cut imports.The Agriculture Ministry said earlier that Kazakhstan had exported 12.2 million tonnes of grain since the start of the season in September, up 14% from 10.7 million tonnes a year earlier. The ministry expects to ship 13 million tonnes of new-crop grain to foreign markets this season, roughly in line with the previous season. Kazakhstan harvested 27 million tonnes of grain in 2025, up 2%, with yields averaging 17 centners per hectare compared with 16 centners in 2024. (ICE ALMATY)
