Kazakhstan allocates 10.4 bln tenge for KazSat-3R communications satelliteThe Kazakh government has allocated 10.4 billion tenge from its reserve fund for the development of the KazSat-3R communications satellite, which will replace the existing KazSat-3 satellite, the government press service said.Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov signed a resolution approving the funding."The funds will go toward building the new KazSat-3R satellite, which is to replace the current KazSat-3. The planned service life of KazSat-3 ends in 2029, and the replacement will ensure continuity of the national satellite communications system," the government said in a statement Thursday.The project will ensure stable operation of satellite communications and broadcasting networks, expand internet access in sparsely populated and remote areas, improve information security and strengthen the country's technological sovereignty, the government said.The KazSat system is currently used by 19 telecommunications operators and government agencies, with more than 2 million television subscribers connected to the system.
