China’s Guoyou Materials Group to invest 470 bln tenge in Kuryk port terminalGuoyou Materials Group plans to invest 470 billion tenge in the first phase of a multipurpose terminal at the Caspian port of Kuryk, the prime minister's press service said."The prime minister was briefed on plans to build the first phase of a multipurpose terminal at the Kuryk port. The project follows agreements reached during President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's working visit to China in July," the press service said after Bektenov's working trip to the Mangistau region.Guoyou Materials Group Chairman Yu Boyang said the company would invest 470 billion tenge in the project, which includes an automated container terminal, construction of a rail link to the national network, and supply of container ships and ferries.The first phase will have a handling capacity of up to 15 million tonnes of cargo per year, with construction scheduled for 2026-2028. The second phase is to be implemented in 2029-2031 and commissioned in 2032. Full capacity will reach about 25 million tonnes per year, with room for further expansion.The project is expected to create up to 800 jobs, with training for Kazakh technical staff and phased localization of operations.The Transport Ministry, the Mangistau region authorities and Kazakhstan Guoyou Investment had earlier signed an investment deal for the Kuryk port's first phase.Kuryk port, located on the eastern Caspian coast south of Aktau, sits in a natural bay. Its ferry terminal handles grain, petroleum products, fertilizers, chemicals and other cargo, with annual capacity of more than 7 million tonnes. (ICE ALMATY)
