Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan seek to boost cargo shipments along Trans-Caspian transport routeThe prime ministers of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have discussed plans to increase freight volumes along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route and instructed their national railway companies to draw up a concrete action plan, the Kazakh government press service said.Olzhas Bektenov and Abdulla Aripov visited the Aktau International Seaport, a key hub on the TITR, where they toured the facility and reviewed its infrastructure and capacity.The port can handle up to 12 million tonnes of cargo annually and provides year-round shipping to the Caucasus, Central Asia and the Caspian region, the press service said.The first phase of a container hub with capacity of 140,000 twenty-foot equivalents per year has been commissioned. After the second phase is completed in 2027-2028, total capacity will rise to 240,000 TEUs. Orders have been placed for six container vessels, with four scheduled for delivery in 2027 and two in 2028.Cargo throughput for Uzbek shipments via the ports of Aktau and Kuryk rose more than 60% in 2025, the press service said.Following the visit, the prime ministers ordered Kazakhstan Temir Zholy and Uzbekistan Temir Yollari to develop a detailed plan for boosting shipments.
