INDONESIA'S Q2 GDP EXPANDS 5.29% ON STRONG CONSUMPTION

Indonesia’s economy expanded 5.29% year-on-year in Q2 2026, with growth driven primarily by household consumption and investment. According to Indonesia’s Central Statistics Agency (BPS), household spending contributed 2.67 percentage points to overall growth and increased 5.06%, while investment grew 6.87% and added 2.06 percentage points. Government consumption surged 15.97%, supporting domestic demand, although net exports reduced growth as imports rose faster than exports. The economy reached Rp 6,552.1 trillion at current prices during the April-June period, with first-half 2026 growth averaging 5.45%. On the production side, almost all sectors posted positive growth except mining, which contracted 1.64% due to lower output of minerals such as bauxite, tin, and nickel, as well as disruptions at the Grasberg mine. Manufacturing remained the largest contributor to growth, followed by trade and construction. The fastest-growing sectors were electricity and gas supply (10.81%) and accommodation and food services (10.60%), supported by stronger tourism activity and government programs. Strong consumer spending, rising e-commerce transactions, expanding manufacturing activity, and increased domestic and foreign investment highlighted the resilience of Indonesia’s economy despite slower growth among major trading partners such as the United States and China.Source: https://jakartaglobe.id/business/indonesias-q2-gdp-expands-529-on-strong-consumption (ICE GIACARTA)
